A Bit More Retrospection (Bonnie Hunter Designs) from TheEclecticAbuela

As I was looking back at my Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilts (see previous post), I thought it would be interesting to remind myself of the other BH patterns I have made. I have included  Bonnie's name for the pattern and my name for individual quilts [in brackets], if they differed. The year indicated was the year that I completed the project.

Carolina Chain (2015)

Patches and Pinwheels (2015)

Bricks and Stepping Stones [AKA Autumn Path] (2015)

These were three of my first efforts. I was afraid of the small pieces, so I made the units a bit bigger than ...

jamestown landing finish from Making A Lather

I have a finish for my one monthly goal and PHD 2020.

jamestown landing is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book string fling. It finished at 85 x 96 and used about 25 yards of scraps. I used a free motion swirl pattern on my longarm. I used my sewing machine to attach the binding.

I started this quilt in March 2013 in a class with Bonnie Hunter at the heritage quilt show in Bloomington Indiana. I put it on the top 2020 list of quilts I wanted to finish. And, I made it my goal for July to ...

jamestown landing is a top from Making A Lather

There is a funny story to my Jamestown Landing quilt.
When I heard that Bonnie Hunter was going to be in Indiana at the heritage quilt show in Bloomington, I was on the registration page at the very first minute. Jamestown landing was already sold out. I did get into the pineapple blossom class which was first. It was a great class, and, I asked Bonnie if there had been any cancellations for the Jamestown landing class in the afternoon. She called the coordinator in and asked her. There was. but, I hadn't brought any fabric for that class ...

to do : the other half from Making A Lather

Jamestown landing looks like a big mess up close. But, the camera makes it look better and like it is supposed to look.
I have had a few not nice things to say while working on this. It is a really good idea to keep current with a project and not put it away for a few years.  I have wondered what I was thinking many times.
The grass was wet, so, I haven't really checked to make sure everything is going in the right direction.

Last week, I realized I needed two more blocks for the charming stars ...

a bit of blue from Making A Lather

I have enough blue scraps that I could probably use it every month, and, not see the bottom of the barrel. So, I don't mind that we are doing blue again this year for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made these country roads blocks with whatever my hand picked from the 1 1/2 inch bin as long as it was blue.

One of my one monthly goals for July is to join my Jamestown landing blocks into a top. I am using them as a leader/ ender as I work on other blue rainbow projects.

I have three ...

Jamestown landing rows from Making A Lather

I have made progress on Jamestown landing - a Bonnie Hunter pattern. I am sewing this top together as part of my one monthly goal and PHD2020.  I took a class in Bloomington with Bonnie Hunter in March 2013. And, it has been in the block stage since then. I worked on it after I got home, and then it stalled.
I do not like string piecing. I prefer crumb piecing, so, I made the decision to switch the string blocks with my crumb blocks. I am not sure if I will be sorry, yet. I really like revisiting some of ...

new goals for July from Making A Lather

July is here with a whole new month of possiblities.
For my one monthly goal, in July, I want to quilt my snow days quilt and square dance mystery quilt from my carolina home. This was a 2018 mystery quilt.

I want to join my alpha letters into a quote and a top.

And, I want to organize and make a top with my Jamestown landing blocks. I started Jamestown landing in 2013. This project is in blocks. This quilt is a combination of HSTS and string blocks found in string fling book by Bonnie Hunter.

This will also be ...

Happy New Year! from Life is a Stitch

Ahhh....one last day of holidays to relax before heading back to work tomorrow.

I took some time this morning to get the bindings of these two quilts - - both of them are Bonnie Hunter designs -- stitched to the front.  I believe I'll spend the rest of the day with my feet up hand sewing the bindings to the back.

Jamestown Landing and Celtic Solstice

This week has been particularly busy, as we traveled to Newfoundland to ring in the New Year and celebrate the wedding of our oldest son.  Sailor Boy lives in Halifax, but his new wife was ...
